Welcome to Romania

Regiones and Cities Events Places Activities Experience People

The magnificent Carpathian Mountains – that are a continuation of the Alps - dominate Romania’s landscape, encircle Transylvania and they’re the centre of outdoor activities from hiking and skiing to caving and mountain biking.

The best known hiking destinations are the main ranges: the Bucegi, the Făgăraş, the Apuseni and the Retezat. Well-marked trails provide ideal conditions for day excursions as well as longer expeditions. Furthermore, mountain refuges are available and are friendly in addition to being excellent bases for hiking, caving and climbing activities.

Between November and April, some of the cheapest skiing and snowboarding on the continent can be organized in Romania. Brasov is the favourite resort for skiing and snowboarding. North from Buacharest, on the main road, other popular resorts include Sinaia, Buşteni and Predeal, while Păltiniş near Sibiu, Borşa to the north in Maramureş, and Ceahlău and Durău on the Moldavian border are also popular. Borşa is widely regarded as the best option for beginners, but larger resorts have several easy and medium pistes with at least one black run for advanced skiers.
