Welcome to Finland
Finland is well-known for its friendly people, saunas and unusual annual festivals that all contribute to its charm and appeal. It may not be the dream location for the economically conscious visitor but there are many ways to save money if you know where to drink.
From December to January in the south and from December to April in the north and central regions of the country, cross-country skiing is a favourite pastime. However, the lake regions, especially around Lake Inari, are ideal for kayaking or frozen kitesurfing in the winter. In other sports, the distinctly Finnish pesäpallo is a favourite and popular national sport that is similar to baseball and ice hockey.
