Welcome to Estonia
With its crumbling castles and colourful urban landscapes, Estonia offers visitors a mix of city and rural areas from medieval to contemporary. The reliable and efficient public transport makes it easy to get around and residents are extremely friendly and welcoming to visitors.
National sports include football, for which the A. Le Coq Arena is the best, and basketball, for which Tallinn’s Kalev Stadium is the best. In the summer, Estonia is ideal for many water sports ranging from windsurfing to kayaking and canoeing or just relaxing on the beach. Other popular sports include hiking, biking and horseriding, that can be done on the mainland or on islands like Saaremaa and Hiimaa.
With nearly 20% of the country designated as protected land, Estonia has four national parks and several nature reserves that provide homes for a diverse range of wild animals and birds. The best time to visit these national parks is the period from May to September.
