Bulgaria

Welcome to Bulgaria

Regiones and Cities Events Places Activities Experience People

Like many parts of Eastern Europe, the large mountain ranges of Bulgaria make it perfect for many extreme sports. The country’s famous ski resorts are in operation from December to March, but Bansko in the Pirin mountain range in the southwest is the most famous. It includes challenging runs on Alpine peaks that are a dream for advanced skiers and snowboarders. For beginners, Pamporovo in the Rhodope Mountains is ideal. The Borovets that is in the Rila range is also memorable – particularly as the Rila Mountains provide some of Bulgaria’s best hiking destinations -including the country’s highest peak, Mount Musala (2925m), and a 2-3 day trail from the peak to Rila Monastery. In Sohttps://leisurecrew.com/place/sofia.htmlfia, Zig-Zag Holidays is the best place to go for maps, advice and escorted hikes.

Horseriding is also gaining popularity. Trips of varying lengths can be organized through only a few select travel agencies.

However, football is the national favourite although volleyball, basketball and handball are also enjoyed by Bulgarians. The premier division, “A” Gruppa, plays on weekends and tickets are not only cheap, but also available on the day outside the stadiums. While an informative website is maintained by the Bulgarian Football League, there is limited English content and information available.
