Hiking

Hiking is rather famous kind of activity in Guatemala. Volcano climbing is worth to be organized. There are more than 37 volcanic peaks there. Tajumulco is the highest peak which can be tackled only when the climber is acclimatized to the altitude of  2000m. It’s easier to reach the peak Pacaya. Trekking trips along island or just up volcanoes can be organized by a number of tour groups that can be found in Santa Cruz La Laguna, San Pedro la Laguna, Antigua, Quetzaltenango. Be careful and try to take all necessary precautions in order to escape some attacks on hikers while climbing the volcanoes not far away from the shore of Lago de Atitlán. These attacks are as the rule armed but not violent. It’s very important to check the safety and the security situation while setting out.

Sport-fishing

Guatemala possesses beautiful ocean that inspires you for going fishing. Sport-fishing can be organized on the Pacific coast. Here you can find the best water in the world for snapper, bonito, dorado, blue marlin, black and yellow tuna.

The Caribbean part is the best place for tarpon and black tuna. The rivers in

Petén are full of sport fish, for example peacock bass, tarpon, snook. Such lakes as Izabal, Yaxhá and Petexbatún can offer superb fishing.

Caving and tubing

Caving is a popular activity in Guatemala, particularly in the places north of Cobán. Here you can investigate big caverns or tubes down underground rivers. The Alta Verapaz region, especially Chisec, Lanquín, Finca Ixobel and Candelaria are the places for heading for.
