Singapore offers a cultural extravaganza in which both Asian and Western influences are represented and an enormous amount of money has been invested. Much sought-after property in downtown areas like Little India and Waterloo Street have been given to various organizations that attract top-notch performers from around the world – with prices to match – as do prestigious places like Theatres on the Bay. However, despite these incredible and vast investments, creativity is still censored although not to the extent that it was in the 1970s and 1980s. In addition, there are firm lines no one even considers crossing when the topic is religion, ethnicity and party politics.
