Welcome to Russia
Like many countries, football is the main spectators’ sport in Russia. The biggest teams are: Dinamo (Leningradskiy prospekt 36) and Spartak (Luzhniki Stadium, Luzhnetskaya nab. 24), while Petersburg fans support Zenit (Petrovskiy stadium, 2nd Petrovskiy Island).
Skating is another major part of Russian culture and one that is as significant as vodka and eating blinis. So most of the population knows how to skate. This also means that there are numerous places to skate including frozen paths at the enormous Gorky Park or the more intimate Hermitage Garden. Year round skating is available at Gorky Park’s covered ice-rink. Moscow’s Sparrow Hills offer fantastic benefits and conditions for winter sledding. The location overlooks Moscow State University, the largest of the “seven sisters,” and the 1950s Stalinist-Gothic skyscrapers.
The year round bike tours in St. Petersburg are not only a good attraction for cycling enthusiasts, but also a fantastic way to explore the city itself. We recommend Skarprokat Rent-a-bike for your gear. Peter’s Walking Tours can be booked through International Youth Hostel in this city, too.
