93% of travellers can be considered “food travellers” says a 2016 study by the Food Travel Monitor, a very loose term that says we have participated in a food or beverage experience other than in restaurants, in the last 12 months. Whether this means participating in cooking schools or attending a beer festival, you are considered a food traveller. At their core they are explorers who on their adventures will visit restaurants, gelateria’s, bakery’s and sweet shops to sample their goods and see why the area is famous for them.
Whether referred to as food or culinary tourism we mean the same thing and is defined as “the act of traveling for a taste of a place in order to get a sense of the place”. Some people will visit gourmet restaurants and sample the finest foods and others travel to sample street food, it really doesn’t matter they are travelling for the same reason.
