Overview
Vieng Phouka, is a town in Luang Namtha Province, northeastern Laos, approximately 50 kilometres southwest of the town of Luang Namtha. It is the capital of Viengphoukha District.
Description
The town was affected by the 2007 Laos earthquake, the epicentre only being several kilometres to the southwest. Vieng Phoukha District is a mountainous district located in the south of Luang Namtha Province on Road 3 about 60 Km from Luang Namtha. It has a total land area of 1,866 square kilometers, bordering Namtha, Nalae and Long District as well as Bokeo Province.Most people in Vieng Phoukha live in small rural villages and practice agriculture as their main occupation. The ethnic minority groups in the district are Akha, Muser, Khmu, Hmong and Lao.
