Overview
The Toachi Canyon can also be known as the Canyon of the Toachi river. It is a product of the pyroclastic flows from the eruption of the Quilotoa volcano.
Description
From La Posada de Tigua, there’s a five- to six-hour hike (15km) up the Cañon del Toachi to Quilotoa. It takes you through a spectacular canyon, past traditional farms and up to the crater lake. A guide will cost you $25, and is recommended, because further up the road from Tigua the ancient trail markings become a bit unclear.
