Description
The town and ski resort of Sarıkamış, 55km southwest of Kars, has deep, dry powder and terrain for skiers and snowboarders. There are also cross-country options. It's more low-key and less windy than Turkey's top ski resort, Palandöken (5km south of Erzurum), and the slopes are more scenic, with vast expanses of Scotch pines. The ski season runs from about mid-November to early April. The area can also be enjoyed in summer due to its good network of signposted hiking trails.
