Description

Rumiñahui volcano provides the opportunity for alpine enthusiasts to sport their crampons in Ecuador. The extinct volcano, located in the Cotopaxi National Park, has three peaks: Rumiñahui Sur, Rumiñahui Central, and Rumiñahui Norte, each reaching a height of almost 15,500 feet.

Climbing Rumiñahui early in your personalized tour to Ecuador is a great way to acclimatize before tackling some of the more high-altitude ascents. The climb offers spectacular views of the neighboring mountains of Cotopaxi, El Corazón, and Los Illinizas, as well as wildlife-spotting opportunities with wild horses, magnificent Andean condors and even pumas living in the area. Rumiñahui can be climbed year-round, but the most favorable conditions are in December and January, and in July and August (these summer months are usually clearer but can be subject to gusty winds).
