Monte Pissis is an extinct volcano on the border of La Rioja and Catamarca provinces, Argentina, 25 km from the Chilean border. The mountain is the third-highest in the Western Hemisphere and is located about 550 km north of Aconcagua.

Monte Pissis - an extinct volcano in the province of La Rioja, Argentina. The mountain in height is the third in the Western Hemisphere and is located about 600 km north of Aconcagua. The Monte Pissi volcano was named after Pedro Jose Amadeo Pissi, a French geologist who worked in the Chilean government. Because of the location in the Atacama Desert, the mountain has very dry conditions, but there is an extensive glacier with crevasses.
