Overview
Lunahuaná is a small Peruvian town south of the capital Lima. It’s set in a mountain valley by the Cañete River, which is known for its seasonal rapids. Plaza de Armas is home to the colonial Lunahuaná Cathedral.
Description
Wine and pisco are produced in surrounding areas like Catapalla, which features a suspension bridge. West of town are the Incahuasi ruins, an archaeological site with 15th-century Inca structures. The small town of Lunahuaná rises like a slice of desert romance above the foggy and grubby coastal strip south of Lima. Reached via a winding 38km road that tracks east from the noisy settlement of Cañete, it appears almost magically, a thin strip of broccoli green amid the dusty desert that gleams with a touch of Middle Eastern promise.
