Lake Izunuma-Uchinuma is two freshwater lakes that lie in cropland of northern Miyagi, with a total area of 390 ha.

Description

Izunuma-Uchinuma Sanctuary is a nature reserve in Miyagi Prefecture. Its local marshes provide an ideal environment for many local and migratory birds. It is the perfect place for bird lovers. You can see hunting misago falcons from May to July, reed warblers (oyoshikiri) in June and July, white-fronted geese (magan) from November to January, and many more. Flower lovers will also be interested in the beautiful lotus flowers that can be found blooming throughout the marsh from July to August. During the peak period, there is a lotus flower festival where you can board small boats that make their way through the marsh. It is a perfect opportunity to get up close to the flowers and take some great photographs.
