Overview
Laikipia County is one of the 47 counties of Kenya, located on the Equator in the former Rift Valley Province of the country. Laikipia is a cosmopolitan county and is county number 31.
Description
The county has two major urban centers: Nanyuki to the southeast, and Nyahururu to the southwest. Its capital is Rumuruti. In Laikipia, an elite group of conservationists has created a safari camp unlike most in Kenya.
To the north-east of the Great Rift Valley, and north-west of snow-capped Mount Kenya, the high plains of Laikipia are increasingly recognized as one of Kenya’s best safari regions, challenging the Maasai Mara for an overall safari experience, if not for raw numbers of animals. You won’t need to escape from the crowds here: in an area not far off the size of Wales, there’s plenty of room for a few safari visitors.
