Kozjak

Overview

Kozjak, also known as Mali Kozjak or Primorski Kozjak is a mountain located above the town of Kaštela in Dalmatia, Croatia. It belongs to Dinaric Alps, and it stretches from the pass of Klis in the southeast, the above Split Airport in the northwest.

Description

Sveti Ivan Biranj is the highest peak of the western area of Kozjak. There is a chapel on the peak, dedicated to St. John, the patron saint of Kaštel Lukšić. The highest peak point is slightly to the east of the chapel, but there is no path leading to this point. In the area of Malačka and Sv. Ivan Biranj, members of the mountaineering club PK Split have designed a network of educational, ecological and recreational trails, marking them with yellow-green markings. The most interesting site in the area is the karst pond Jezero, with a spring of drinking water nearby that never runs dry.
