Erciyes Dağı

Overview

Mount Erciyes, also known as Argaeus, is a volcano in Turkey. It is a large stratovolcano surrounded by many monogenetic vents and lava domes, and one maar. The bulk of the volcano is formed by lava flows of andesitic and dacitic composition.

Description

Erciyes Dağı Ski Resort, on the northeastern side of ruggedly beautiful Erciyes Dağı, has, over the past few years, been undergoing a multimillion-lira revamp intended to establish the mountain as a rival to European ski destinations. The ski runs themselves, and the modern gondola ski-lift system connecting them, are fantastic, with pistes to suit both beginners and hardcore snow-bunnies looking for empty slopes. At some time in the past, part of the summit collapsed towards the east.
