Çoruh

Overview

Artvin Province is a province in Turkey, on the Black Sea coast in the northeastern corner of the country, on the border with Georgia. The provincial capital is the city of Artvin.

Description

The Coruh Valley is considered to be one an ecological zone by two separate organisations due to it being a biodiversity hotspot.  The valley is considered important for plant life, bird species and other ecological ideals leading it to be a high priority protection area.

The Coruh River passes through this valley as well as crossing two countries, with a few of the provinces in Turkey having it pass through. Starting in the Mescit Mountains in north-east Turkey it flows through different cities and provinces before flowing into Georgia where it empties into the Black sea only a few kilometres north of the Turkish border.
