Claviere

Overview

Claviere is a municipality in the Metropolitan City of Turin in the Italian region of Piedmont, located about 80 kilometres west of the centre of Turin, near the border with France. Claviere is a small, but well equipped skiing village.

Description

Right on the border with France, Claviere connects to the Milky Way’s 400km of runs. Which means easy access to Sauze d’Oulx, Sestriere, Sansicario and Cesana, and to Montgenèvre in France. It’s got lots of high, open runs as well as lower, wooded slopes – mostly made up of red runs and lower-gradient black slopes – making it an ideal choice for intermediates and boarders. Claviere is renowned for its excellent snow coverage, short lift queues, and empty slopes. The village itself is very quiet, with just a small selection of après bars.

Claviere’s a great resort for families. If you’re after a livelier après scene, it’s best to head to Montgenèvre, just half an hour’s walk or a quick taxi ride away.

Please be aware that local authorities have closed four runs between Sauze d’Oulx and the rest of the Milky Way ski area to investigate an incident that happened earlier in the year. Those four runs are Cresta (red), 27 Bis (blue), 27 Bassa (blue), and 27 Alta (red). The only run down into Sauze that’s open is a black run named Colo, meaning that only skiers and boarders confident on black runs can get down into the resort. If you’re competent on blue and red runs, you’ll still have access to around 70% of the Milky Way ski area.
