Chiriquí

Overview

Chiriquí is a province in western Panama bordering Costa Rica and the Pacific Ocean. In the northern Chiriquí Highlands is Parque Nacional Volcán Barú, named for a volcano that's Panama's highest peak.

Description

The Los Quetzales Trail winds through the region's cloud forests, linking the rustic agricultural community of Cerro Punta with Boquete, a base for outdoor pursuits like hiking, climbing, and white-water rafting. Chiriquí claims to have it all: Panama’s tallest mountains, longest rivers, and most fertile valleys. The province is also home to spectacular highland rainforests and the most productive agricultural and cattle-ranching regions in the country. As a result, los chiricanos (natives of Chiriquí) take particular pride in their province and wave the provincial flag – in every sense – at the slightest opportunity.
