Overview

Chapelco, or Cerro Chapelco, is a mountain and massif in Neuquén Province, south-western Argentina. The ski station of the same name is located 19 kilometres from the resort town of San Martín de los Andes.

Description

Located 20km southeast of San Martín, Cerro Chapelco is one of Argentina’s principal winter-sports centers, with a mix of 28 runs for beginners and experts, and a maximum elevation of 1920m. Full ski equipment rental is available (AR$780 per day). Transportes Ko-Ko runs three buses daily (AR$90 return) during ski season to the mountain from San Martín’s bus terminal.



The Fiesta Nacional del Montañés, the annual ski festival, is held during the first half of August. The slopes are open from mid-June to early October. The low season is mid-June to early July and from August 28 to mid-October; high season is around the last two weeks of July. Rental equipment is cheaper in San Martín. Travel agencies in San Martín also offer packages with shuttle service, or shuttle service alone (AR$150); they pick you up at your hotel.
