Overview
Colorado is the 6th district of the Canton of Pococí, in Limón Province, at the north-easterly corner of Costa Rica where it meets Nicaragua and the Caribbean Sea.
Description
Barra del Colorado is located in the northeastern corner of Costa Rica. This remote region is only accessible by plane or boat and is surrounded by the 400,000 acres Barra del Colorado nature Reserve. The region is a combination of rivers, canals, mangroves, and rainforest that teems with wildlife. One of the biggest draws to the area is the giant Tarpon fish that lurk in the waters around Barra del Colorado.
With all the water in the region it is not surprising that the main attraction here is the fishing. World-class tarpon and snook fishing attract anglers from all over, and other gamefish include bluegill, rainbow bass (guapote), alligator gar and machaca in the rivers and barracuda, mackerel, and jack crevalle near the shore. There are several fishing lodges that offer all inclusive packages.
There is also deep-sea fishing here for marlin, sailfish and tuna but most anglers prefer the Pacific side for blue water.
