Playa Avellanas

Overview

Playa Avellanas is one of the most beautiful beaches in Guanacaste. It is located on the north Pacific coast, south of Tamarindo Bay, near Pinilla and north of Playa Negra. Avellanas is well known for being one of the best surf beaches in Guanacaste.

Description

Avellanas is one of the most beautiful beaches in the Tamarindo area. There is nothing but pristine beach wilderness, shaded by crooked old trees and backed by scrub, mangroves and dry forest. The long ribbon of beach unfolds until Tamarindo's Playa Langosta in the north, and Playa Negra in the south. Some stretches are rocky and feature tide pools, other parts have powdery white coral sand and turquoise water. As the sea bottom drops gently and there aren't many underwater rocks Avellanas is a nice beach for bathing. Hazelnuts are also highly appreciated by people looking for natural beaches, secluded and pristine places. The area still maintains much of nature, with dry tropical forests, local cattle ranches, and a large and beautiful estuary, inhabited by numerous species of birds, reptiles, amphibians, and insects. There are a few hotels in the area, and people can also visit the area from Tamarindo, which is only about 20 minutes north.
