Street luge (also known as land/road luge) is an activity in which participants ride a street luge board (also known as a sled) where the force of gravity is used to move down a paved course or a road. It is similar to skateboarding in the sense that it is done for recreational purposes. The boards are designed based on the rules of the various governing bodies but the following elements are generally consistent in their design:
1. Lean-activated steering skateboard-style trucks are used
2. Mechanical brakes are not permitted
3. Padding in both the front and back
4. Restrictions (according to the sanctioning body) on the length, width and weight of the boards
5. No parts that affect braking or enclose the rider are permitted
