Skateboarding is predominantly a recreational sport although it can also be a form of transportation, a profession and an art since it involves tricks and riding on the board. Numerous boarders have influenced the sport over the years, which lead to the International Association of Skateboard Companies, which promotes the sport across the world and, in 2003, introduced Go Skateboarding Day in southern California. Recreation plans and states were implemented in several cities. As a result of this, more available land for skating was created in mane parks and a great number of skateboarders from streets started participating in the organized activities.
