Barges are the classic “easy to learn, hard to master” situation, they handle differently to other boats as they are much larger. If it’s your first time on a barge, then we recommend opting for a smaller one as they are easier to get a grip of. With some basic training however, you will be good to go in no time so you can enjoy your narrowboating fun! Training can be provided by the hire company or you can complete a course in advance.

Before leaving with your new boat be sure that you have received adequate tuition from those responsible, but for your own sake you need to be with a company that takes your enjoyment and safety seriously.
